Amber Carnival Glass
how much is a 1969 amber carnival glass table lamp valued at?
If it’s from 1969, it’s not carnival glass. I see these turn up in the thrift store all the time for about $10. For it to be worth more, it has to be a pretty spectacular “pop atomic” or “op art” design.
If you think your lamps fits into that category, you might check Barnes & Noble and research lamp values in their Antique & Collectibles section. They stock a great section of Collector’s Guides, including price guides for lamps and other household furnishings and decor.

Standard Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass $26.95 One of our more popular titles, this tenth edition introduces almost 100 new patterns and almost 200 new photographs, bringing this edition’s total to over 2,000 color patterns. Aside from the revamped in-depth sections on carnival glass patterns, this comprehensive reference once again includes a section on an emerging interest of collectors, hatpins. Grading information and salesmen’s samples are also included in this edition. All pieces and patterns are described in detail with important facts, colors, histories, and sizes. The bound-in price guide also includes virtually every piece of carnival glass ever made with prices given for various colors in each pattern. A multitude of both American and foreign companies are represented, and brief biographies on companies such as Dugan, Fenton, Imperial, Northwood, Cambridge, Westmoreland, Fostoria, Heisey, McKee, Jeannette, and the U.S. Glass Company are included. There is also a new illustrated section on Millersburg Peacock patterns, as well as old and new company trademarks. Collectors will be thrilled with this new edition. |

By the Light of the Carnival $15.04 Joe goes to work as a carnie for a week and meets wordly gypsies: Carlos, a young man looking for trouble; Lady Fortuna, a guilt ridden old fortune teller; Pinda, a self assured young woman he thinks he might want to run off to see the world with; and Miss Toulon, who decided where to place the glass maze having been told in no uncertain terms by loud voices in her head. But Lisa, who has also just graduated from Joe’s high school, shows up. She’s no longer a shy stranger, and Joe falls for her too, even though choosing her would mean staying on the farm. Strange things happen and there are rumors that the glass maze is haunted and evil. Furthermore, it has plans to free itself, even if it means taking down the whole carnival-and Joe’s life-with it. |

Amber $14.23 Amber has captured the human imagination for centuries, as amulets, ritual cups, and beads dating back 10,000 years attest. It is a fascinating substance, one that offers a unique intersection of the fields of paleontology, botany, entomology, and mineralogy. The fossilized resin of ancient trees, amber preserves organic material–most commonly insects and other invertebrates–and with it the shape and surface detail that are usually obliterated or hopelessly distorted during the mineralization we associate with fossils. To look at an ant or a bee caught in amber is to look not at an organism that has been turned to stone, but at the actual remains of an insect that lived hundreds of millions of years ago, remains that retain an uncanny semblance of life. Amber also offers clues to the evolution of certain behaviors, capturing such interactions as parasitism–a fruit fly with a parasitic mite still attached to it–or mutualism–a bubble of gas indicating the presence of beneficial bacteria in the gut of a termite. Unique to this book are identification keys to the most common insect inclusions as well as practical advice on how to identify all-too-common fakes. "Amber" will bring the study of this and its inclusions within reach of anyone with access to amber and a good magnifying glass. |
