Pressed Pennies $3.95 Pressed Pennies is mainstream fiction, written from a male perspective to a female audience. A la Nicolas Sparks and Robert James Waller, it is a tale of connecting love stories, proving that the world really is a small place and that the trick is to cherish it by living each of its moments to the fullest. Amid the heart-warming romances and deceitful twists and turns, Pressed Pennies tackles the trying issues associated with living in a non-traditional family. In an era of divorce and single-parenthood, it is a story about raising children and peacefully co-existing; making it work with mutual respect and consideration. The book’s underlying theme is discovered in the evolution of the 80′s child. Though life begins as wholesome and innocent, technology quickly takes over. Suddenly, two parents must leave the home and go to work. Day care, fast food and a list of coveted luxuries replace long talks in porch swings, tree forts and family suppers. The price for comfort proves very expensive, though, as the American family is traded in for the American dream. Early Reviews: "Steve Manchester has a gift for expressing through his writing the complicated and transcendent beauty of the human experience with poignant clarity." -Yolanda King (eldest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King) Higher Ground "Pressed Pennies is priceless Steve Manchester has an obvious love of words and an amazing ability to use those words to create lasting images in the reader’s mind. His detail-oriented, richly drawn characters and descriptions make this story leap off the pages." – Joyce Handzo, In the Library Reviews "Pressed Pennies is a tale of love and second chances and affirms thatlove can come at any stage of life if we are just open. This is a book that is sure to warm your heart." – Roberta Austin, The Compulsive Reader |

Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass: 1860-1930 $28.51 American pressed glass, which was at its zenith in the 1870s, entails hundreds of patterns and dozens of shapes with elaborate geometric, animal, fruit, and floral designs. Available in crystal and sparkling colors, this collectible glassware flourished until the end of the 1920s. This all-new collector s encyclopedia features approximately 250 new photographs, most of them for new patterns, bringing the total to more than 1,700 photos showcasing the exquisite patterns and beautiful colors of the quality pressed glass produced for 60 years in America. Mike Carwile is an authority on pressed, carnival, and opalescent glass, and the sales of the other five editions of Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass prompted this sixth edition. This encyclopedia is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also historically correct. Collectors are sure to be pleased with Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass, Sixth Edition. |

Pressed in Time: American Prints 1905-1950 $23.94 This volume chronicles the development of printmaking in America through the first half of the twentieth century. During this period of dramatic social and cultural change, printmaking served artists as a cost-effective means of communicating their observations and ideas. Woodcuts, etchings, and lithographs–many illustrated here–by artists such as Thomas Hart Benton, Childe Hassam, Edward Hopper, John Sloan, and Grant Wood addressed a variety of themes, including urbanization, small-town life, the Great Depression, the California landscape, and the two World Wars. The skyscraper, for instance, became a prime subject, admired for its roots in American architecture as well as its associations with national power. Prints frequently portrayed the city’s inhabitants, often in crowded spaces where the distinctions between public and private life might become uncomfortably blurred. Depictions of the Depression of the 1930s suggest pessimism about the prospects for social justice in a capitalistic economy. Other prints demonstrate a heroic conception of industry and an idealized view of life in the nation’s agrarian heartland. |
