What is the best connection for my xbox 360?

I have a Vizio vw26L and was wondering if the component cables that came with the system were better than a vga connection?
Also on your 360 when you go to console setting to set your HDTV setting what should i put it on (720p, 1080i,1080p)?
Can anyone suggest any HDTV setting for viewing in general?
