The Libbey glass Company has a long and established history. It was started in the first half on the nineteenth century in Massachusetts as the New England Glass Company. The original firm was bought out in 1878 by William Libbey and renamed. Due to the increased competition in this industry, the company shifted its base after ten years to Ohio. A good example is the designer Joseph Locke, who joined up with the company towards the tail end of the nineteenth century.
Joseph Locke was involved with the patenting of a number of special designs which include Peach Blow, Pomonma, Maize, and Amberina. Each design that was created at this time was handmade and used expensive and attractive materials. Amberian glass was infused with gold to give a delightful amber-like finish.
Jump forward to the present day and we discover that this producer is still a pioneer in the industry. Apart from creating exquisite cut glass, the company also manufacturers windows, bottles, containers, and a dizzying assortment of drinks vessels. The mass production of glassware began a century ago and was in part thanks to an inventor known as Michael Owens.
