Nesting Bowl
How often do zebra finches need to be hand-fed?
I’ve just fed the baby zebra finch which is just learning to fly about a little, but how many times a day do they need feeding?
Also, shall i put the nesting bowl onto the floor so it’s easier for it to get to?
And what foods should baby zebra finches be fed? At the moment i’ve been using blunt cocktail sticks and feeding it tiny bits of boiled egg.

Well my question would be how old is this bird? Like any other baby bird, they need to be started out on formula and weaned on to solid bird food. Most pet stores sell bird formula, and it would be good to get some solid food to let her pick on, and possibly mix into her food depending on her age.
From what you’ve said, it sounds like she may be a little older. You should feed her around every 2-3 hours, or when her crop is empty. The link I provided says the following-
“When babies start to perch on your hand and flap their wings, they can be moved into a small to medium sized cage since they will instinctively try to fly soon. Provide them a nest filled partially with nesting material and place inside the cage until they are ready to fledge. Supply the birds with several tasty foods, such as spray millet, soaked seed, egg food, vegetables, apple slices and dishes of seed and water. Most finches are curious at this age, and may nibble at these foods as they are weaned from the hand feeding formula. For birds that are slow weaning ( by 30 days old) place a mature bird into their cage to show them what to do.”
So like I said, you need to keep the finch on formula and slowly wean her off into other foods. The nesting bowl would be best low in the cage, otherwise it will be hard for her to get into it. Someone commented saying Finches weren’t very friendly. Which is completely untrue! I raised a finch, and she was much like my Lovebird. She would sit on your finger, tell you when she wanted out, and was very friendly! Just because they are small, doesn’t mean they don’t have big personality’s. Good luck!

You said the bird is around 30 days? She should be weaned by now. The website I provided actually states you should introduce an adult bird to show her what to do, if she is not yet weaned on solid food. I would go to the store and grab a bag of finch food such as “Forti Diet Prohealth”, and of course keep feeding her fruits, eggs, spray, and other bird approved items. She should be eating the food on her own out of a dish.
