I had friends who lived in that time.
As farmers, they had it a little easier than some, but there were no jobs and hard cash was tough to come by. No money for taxes, or gas for the truck…
The Dad decided to poach a deer, as there was no meat available. Did so and Mom got to cooking.
The Game Warden stopped by to tell folks that poachers were in the area and to be careful…he could smell the roast cooking and asked, “What’s for dinner?”
She said, “Bread and honey; want some?”
He said, “Sure”…had a bread and honey sandwich and left.
He knew, and she knew that he knew, but nothing was said.
People need to eat.
I had depression since I was 6 years old… now I’m healed!
