Adding Contemporary Style To Your Home
Many people have different styles, however some love to keep things current in style and design. If you are one of those people you might just love the décor of the contemporary style. Several years ago the contemporary style was cold and unwelcoming; however, this style feels nothing like that. There is no dark and unwelcoming feel to today’s contemporary style.

Contemporary Color Choices for Your Room
The usual colors of contemporary design are the neutrals, however the use of blues and greens is becoming more popular in the design. The base for the contemporary style is usually black which also grounds the look. Neutral shades and tones such as light grey, white and tan need to be used on the walls.
The contemporary look is beginning to spawn monochromatic themes. Monochromatic themes are basically the use of two complimentary colors with the occasional small addition of a neutral color such as black or white. So, you will be able to use white pillows on a modern light blue chair.
Accentuate the Lines and Geometry of the Room
There must be distinct lines in the design of the contemporary style. Examples of distinct lines can easily be found in bare windows and geometric shapes. Don’t mix everything together, all your pieces need to stand out on their own so don’t clutter your spaces.
Choosing Sleek and Modern Furniture
The perfect type of furniture for a contemporary setting is anything that looks sleek, modern and has geometric patterns. Big sofas that are plush and comfy don’t really fit into the contemporary style, but a sleek warp around sofa with exposed legs first perfectly in this type of décor. The neutral shade of color like black, grey, tan and white should be the preferred color for your furniture. Try to avoid accents or furniture that includes frills, or has skirts or trim on the bottom.
Contemporary Décor is Basic, Bold, and Functional
Remember, less is more in the contemporary style. All this means is that you need to focus on larger objects and avoid small and cute things. Floral or paisley prints as well as fringes and ruffles should be avoided.
When it comes to contemporary design the décor should be basic, bold and functional. The décor for the table and shelves area might only need to be a simple candle on a dish. You can also use a glass vase with colored balls or marbles as a contemporary art piece. A general rule to follow for decorating is that no surface area should have more than one decorating item, and other areas such as side tables don’t need a thing on them.
The contemporary style is a great look, no matter where in the house it is used. However, think about how much you really want to use it because contemporary pieces are hard to use in other styles.
