SOLVING COMMON GIFTING DILEMMAS

Having some problems finding inspiration for gifts?  It happens to the best of us.  For many of us, gift shopping is a chore and we don’t always find the perfect present for every occasion.

Times are busy and it’s not always possible to spend ages trawling the shops for that special something.  It takes time and effort – and although we may have the will, we don’t always have the way which can lead to some rushed purchases and some dodgy decisions! .

Another problematic gifting issue is the ‘combined’ gift.  Whilst pooling money can result in a more expensive and perhaps more meaningful gift being purchased, clubbing together can also have it’s own share of issues.  It happens sometimes that the selected item costs more than originally anticipated and one person is left to fund the shortfall from their own wallet.  Sometimes, the chosen item actually costs less than what’s been collected, so someone is left with the burden of organizing refunds or looking for another small gift to buy with the leftover money.  And that’s a real pain in the neck..

And sometimes, it’s not easy to find the perfect gift that does justice to the occasion – for example, finding the perfect gift for a milestone birthday, a special anniversary, wedding present ideas or even to celebrate someone becoming the salesperson of the year!.  Face it – there’s a limit to how many silver photograph frames, glass decanters or coffee table books that a person can have. 

What’s the answer?  Gift vouchers offer a good alternative.  And while everyone knows someone who would be hard pressed to make a choice between heaven or a shopping mall, the truth is that most people don’t have the time or the inclination to spend ages shopping, even with a gift card in their wallet!.  That’s where Plan B comes in – a gift certificate for an event or an experience.

One way of looking at experiential gifts is to think of them as totally custom-designed for the individual.  For example, if you’re looking for a special something to give a person who has everything, but who absolutely LOVES the great outdoors… presenting them with an opportunity to get the adrenalin pumping with a skydive, float in a hot air balloon, go mountain biking through breathtaking countryside, go whale-watching, ride in a dune buggy or relax with a hot stone massage could just be the best thing they’ve ever received 

Instead of buying a gift and hoping that it’s something they’ll like – you can buy a gift certificate through an online retailer that ticks all the boxes of the recipient’s preferences.  If the person you’re buying for is a foodie, what about cooking lessons?  If they love adventure, what about a bungee jump, skydive or white water rafting?.
